There were rumors spreading online that Apple will use it under screen FaceID technology and some even claim that this will appear in iPhone 16 series. But recent reports by foreign media stated that Apple has shifted their plan to bring the feature in 2026.

It means that in the next two years Apple will continue to use Smart Island design. So, the rumors claiming that the Iphone 16 series will bring this feature is not true.
Previous year (2023) Apple patented its under screen FaceID. In this design, the under screen will consist of various sensors to measure 3D gestures and pressure for the Touch ID function. Thus, there will no longer need of hole-punch notch design.
Apple has also planned to put under screen camera technology after 2026, where the camera will be installed under the screen and light will go through the screen holes (aperture) and will reach to the camera, then it will take photos
