Xiaomi 15 Pro imaging technology revealed, using a OmniVision OV50K sensor

Xiaomi 15 series receives radio approval as October-November launch is near

Chinese media shared that Weibo sources revealed the imaging specifications for the upcoming Xiaomi 15 Pro phone. According to the report, the device will feature a sophisticated rear triple camera setup consisting of:

  • 50MP OV50K Main Camera
  • 50MP Ultra-Wide Angle Camera
  • 50MP IMX882 Periscope Telephoto Camera

The main camera uses the OV50K sensor, which is the first of its kind to employ TheiaCel technology, offering a dynamic range comparable to human vision. This sensor supports a variety of advanced features:

  • 1.2-micron pixel size
  • 1/1.3-inch optical format
  • High gain and correlated multi-sampling (CMS) capabilities
  • Four-in-one pixel merging, achieving up to 12.5 million effective pixels
  • Frame rates up to 120 fps and 60 fps in HDR mode
  • Quad Phase Detection (QPD) for ultra-fast autofocus

The OV50K sensor is designed to better low-light performance, 8K video recording, and high-resolution output.

Regarding the telephoto lens, the IMX882 sensor is highlighted for its lower resolution when digitally cropped compared to the OV64b, but it excels in power consumption and other technical specifications. Improvements over the previous JN1 sensor include better performance with a 2.9X to 3.2X cropping capability, though the final outcome will depend on the aperture size.

The Xiaomi 15 Pro also features a new design with a square Deco in the upper left corner, housing the flash outside the module. The device is expected to come with a 2K full-depth micro-curved screen and an innovative 50MP triple-camera module, incorporating an ultra-large aperture solution and telephoto macro capabilities. Early prototypes indicate a significant upgrade in imaging performance.
