It came out from multiple Chinese blog sources that the next flagship Redmi K80 Pro is expected to use the in-display ‘Goodix’ fingerprint scanner which is expected to come in the Q4 of 2024.
Traditional ultrasonic fingerprint sensors have been used in smartphones for several years, primarily in physical sensors located at the back side of the device The sensors use an ultrasonic pulse to capture detailed 3D images of a fingerprint’s unique patterns, including the ridges and pores.
But the Goodix’s own developed in-display sensor is capable of working through the display material with the added benefit of not requiring the screen to be at maximum brightness of operation. This sensor also doesn’t require a specific visible area and even works with wet and dusty hands. The Redmi K80 Pro will feature a 2K straight screen design and will be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
