Recently DxOMark camera score stats updated where the Google Pixel 9 pro XL got an impressive second place in global image ranking, only trailing behind Huawei Pura 70 Ultra. While the Pixel 9 Pro XL fall in many areas, there are few noted shortcomings
DxOMark highlighted that the phone occasionally struggles with depth of field in blur mode, which can affect portrait shots. While in video recording there were some texture loss and noticeable noise in low-light conditions.
On the positive side, the Pixel 9 Pro XL features significant upgrades in its front camera hardware compared to the Pixel 8 Pro. With a wider focal length, a larger sensor, and higher pixel count, the selfie camera delivers markedly better image quality.
When it comes to HDR selfie videos, the Pixel 9 Pro XL competes with the best, including the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max and Honor Magic 6 Pro. It offers accurate exposure, a wide dynamic range, vibrant colors, and excellent detail in video performance.
However, it’s not without flaws. High-contrast scenes can introduce image noise, bokeh mode sometimes produces artifacts, and background blur can be inconsistent. Despite these minor issues, the Pixel 9 Pro XL remains a top contender in smartphone photography.
