Apple has announced the latest version of its mobile operating system in WWDC event, iOS 18, which promises to revolutionize the iPhone experience with its cutting-edge features and enhancements. iOS 18 comes with user personalize screen and control center options for better usability
- Customizable Home Screen: Now users can place icons anywhere on-screen grid, change their icon colors, home screen tint color and dark mode enable options on home screen.
- Users can now place app icons and widgets anywhere on the home screen grid, switch to a dark mode that alters app icons, and change the home screen tint color.
- Control Center Overhaul: The control center now allows users to group their preferred controls, including those created by third-party apps, and swipe between multiple pages of controls and toggles.
- Lock Screen Customization: Now users can replace the camera and flashlight icons on lock screen and put other control center functions
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Features
iOS 18 integrates Apple Intelligence, a powerful AI system that enhances the iPhone experience with features such as:
- Apple Intelligence: This AI system uses generative models to understand and create language and images, taking action across apps and drawing from personal context to simplify and accelerate everyday tasks.
- Image Playground: This feature allows users to put animation and illustrations in photos to make them live. The feature is also integrated in Messaging app and dedicated editor.
- Memories in Photos: This feature allow users to seamlessly make a short movie by just prompting a little description and Apple’ AI system will make short video by collecting the photos and videos, arrange them in chapters etc.
Enhanced Siri
Siri, Apple’s virtual assistant, is getting a significant upgrade with iOS 18. Key features include:
- Natural Conversations: Siri will have more natural conversations and be able to answer a wide range of questions.
- On-Screen Awareness: Siri will now be able to perform actions with apps on your iPhone, such as pulling up a photo of your driver’s license and capturing the license number.
- Type to Siri: Unlike voice commands Siri will now functions as web searcher for more accurate response from the Google. Just type!
Improved Security and Privacy
iOS 18 introduces several security and privacy features, including:
- App Lock: Users can lock individual apps for situations where they need to hand over their phones to others. It helps you by restricting the App lock authentication with Face ID, Touch DI, and password etc. if someone tries to spy on your apps.
- Hide Apps: Users can hide apps they don’t want others to know about, which will only be revealed after the user provides authentication.
- Improved Authentication: Users can enable authentication for any particular app, similar to app locks provided in some Android devices.

- Photos Redesign: The Photos app is getting a major redesign, making the Library more organized to display important photos at a glance.
- Scheduled Messages: Users can now schedule messages to be sent at a later time[2].

Availability
The Apple Developer Program will be conduct for using the beta iOS 18, then the public beta will be released in Beta Program in July. iPhone Xs and later models will get the iOS 18 update later this year
