A Weibo user @Surnamne Miao recently stated that Apple is in talks with other suppliers to design an OLED display panel for their upcoming iPad Mini models. As we previously mentioned that Apple is focusing more on OLED panel iPads and OLED MacBooks will also come. In this stage, the Samsung display began to sample OLED panels for the iPad Mini in April 2024 and the company will start the mass production in the second half of 2025.
The OLED panels developed by Samsung for Apple use a tandem design that improves brightness and energy efficiency. While the OLED iPad Air and iPad mini will arrive by 2026,
Research firm Omdia predicts that the iPad Air will adopt OLED technology in 2026, while the iPad mini will follow in 2027. However, there is speculation that Apple might update both models with OLED displays in 2026 but could delay the OLED transition for the 13-inch iPad Air until 2027.
The display size for the iPad Air will remain a 11-inch model whereas the size for the iPad mini might increase from 8.3 to 8.7 inch size but there might be some changes too. Like the latest iPad Pro models which have the LTPO panels, the upcoming iPad Air and iPad mini are likely to be equipped with LTPS panels which are generally less bright but don’t support Apple’s Pro motion.
Thus, the visual quality will increase but performance will not par as the Pro models.
